Dental Therapists are a separate clinical role from Dental Hygienists. While hygienists focus on preventive care, Dental Therapists can perform everything hygienists do plus baby teeth extractions, indirect restorations (fillings), and comprehensive dental examinations. They do not do crowns, bridges, or dentures. Currently, Dental Therapists are forced to select 'Dental Hygienist' as their role, which is inaccurate. This causes issues with note templates — selecting 'Dentist' incorrectly labels them as 'Dr.' and includes practitioner details they shouldn't have, while 'Dental Hygienist' misrepresents their actual scope of practice. Having 'Dental Therapist' as a distinct option is essential for accurate clinical documentation and professional recognition.
