Feature Request: AI-Assisted Editing and Context-Aware Formatting for Dictated Text
Background
Our team uses Heidi’s dictation feature extensively, and it has become an important part of our daily workflow. One enhancement that would make the feature significantly more powerful would be the ability to edit and refine dictated text using AI prompts, similar to the workflow available in i.e. Wispr Flow (Transformations).
1. Prompt-based editing of dictated text
Users should be able to:
* Select a passage of dictated text.
* Activate an AI editing function via a keyboard shortcut or context menu.
* Enter a custom prompt or choose a predefined action.
Example actions could include:
* “Structure this text.”
* “Format this as a professional email.”
* “Make this more concise.”
* “Convert this into bullet points.”
* “Improve grammar and readability.”
* “Rewrite this in a more professional tone.”
The AI should modify only the selected passage while preserving the intended meaning and, especially in a medical context, avoiding any addition or alteration of factual information.
Frequently used prompts should be saved as custom shortcuts or presets.
2. Context-aware formatting during dictation
It would also be helpful if Heidi could apply basic formatting automatically based on the recognised context and structure of the dictation.
For example, when dictating an email or letter, Heidi could recognise:
* The salutation
* The main body of the message
* Paragraph breaks
* A closing sentence
* The sign-off and name
The resulting text could then be displayed with appropriate paragraphs, spacing and line breaks rather than as one continuous block of text.
Example
A dictated passage such as:
“Dear Ms Smith thank you for your message I have reviewed the results and will contact you tomorrow to discuss the next steps kind regards Riccardo Muhr”
could automatically be formatted as:
“Dear Ms Smith,
Thank you for your message. I have reviewed the results and will contact you tomorrow to discuss the next steps.
Kind regards,
Riccardo Muhr”
Expected benefit
These features would significantly reduce the manual editing required after dictation and make Heidi more useful beyond clinical documentation—for example, for emails, referral letters, administrative notes and other free-text workflows.
In summary, the ideal workflow would combine:
  1. Intelligent initial formatting based on context.
  2. Quick AI-assisted refinement of selected text through prompts or shortcuts.
  3. Customisable presets for frequently used editing commands.
  4. An undo option and strict preservation of the original factual content.
This would make Heidi’s dictation functionality considerably faster, more flexible and more valuable for both clinicians and administrative staff.
