AUTO-LINK Imported Patients

When importing a CSV with a list of patients to Heidi, they do not automatically link with old sessions, even if the patient name is identical. This is a huge hassle to have to manually link every single patient with their old sessions after I import the schedule every day.

I'm just using names, and will import maybe 60 patients at a time from my schedule...then have to click through 1 by 1 and link to a known patient or "create new patient" and it turns from a 5-10 minute process into a nearly 45 minute process...I lose a LOT of efficiency here to the point that Heidi is slowing me down, I might stop linking sessions altogether...this is supposed to speed me up, but I love linking sessions since my templates pull in info from prior sessions that is helpful. I used to not document this, so the extra time I'm spending makes better, more thorough notes, but it is now slowing me down and I wonder why I'm doing this daily. Heidi used to be quick switching between patients when you switch names, but with recent updates it has really slowed down - mine takes 10 seconds to stitch to the next name on the list now.
I would love it to automatically link to old sessions for me 100% of the time, and if not in the patient database make a new patient 100% of the time...this could be a preference setting....I import with screenshots

Thanks for sharing this — importing a daily schedule and then having to manually link every patient to their prior sessions sounds like a real time sink.
To help us pass this to the team with the right detail:
1) What patient fields are included in your CSV today (e.g., full name only, DOB, MRN/ID, email/phone)?
2) When you say “old sessions,” were those sessions originally created from a previous CSV import, or created manually / via an integration?
3) Would you want Heidi to auto-link only when there’s an exact match on a unique identifier (like MRN/DOB), or is exact name match enough in your workflow (keeping in mind duplicates like “John Smith”)?
If you can share a sample CSV header (just the column names) or a screenshot of the import mapping screen, that’d help a lot. I’ll share your feedback with the team once we have those details.

Heidi Team
- Full name with MRN/ID at the end, like JOHN SMITH 123456
- Created from previous import
- Exact match on the name (which includes the ID)
Thanks!
