consent to use AI scribe

a tick box before each consult which says something like "verbal consent gained to use AI scribe"-upon ticking this, the same appears as the first sentence of the transcript. I am doing this manually for each consult currently

AI Scribe Consent Documentation

Hi, This is a simple one. When consent pop-up button is pushed, the transcript automatically has a line at the top to say the patient has been consented. Technically, we shouldn't start a transcription before consent is obtained so Heidi would not normally hear and document this process. This would help clinicians automate this documentation using the existing consent pop-up.

Hiya Manoj Madhavan, thanks for this post! I have a few more questions for you:
- What specific wording would you prefer for the consent message to ensure it aligns with your needs?
- Are there any specific legal or compliance requirements we should be aware of when implementing this feature?
- Would you like the consent confirmation to be stored or logged for future reference, and if so, how?

Hi Tom, Many thanks for your prompt response. I practise in Canada and Canadian Medical Protective agency(CMPA) has the following to say on the topic:
"Yes, prior to making any recording of a clinical encounter, you should obtain patient consent.
The patient should receive an explanation in understandable language about the purpose of the recording or transcription (e.g. that it may be used by the AI tool to draft a medical note of the visit, which you will review and edit). When obtaining consent, clearly explain the risks relating to privacy (e.g. inherent risks associated with digital processing) and accuracy (e.g. AI may produce inaccurate or biased chart entries, though subject to physician review and oversight). Document the consent discussion in the patient’s medical record, and include any consent form if used."

Given time constraints of a consult, I only ask for their permission to use an AI scribe as explained in my initial message.
My personal requirement is this: to have a tick box at the top of every consult stating consent to use AI scribe gained. Once I click on the box, I would like to see a paragraph at the top of my notes before the consult notes which explains the consent taking process as described by CMPA. I can then copy paste this along with the clinical notes into my EMR, or Heidi can do this if its integrated with my EMR. I have not integrated at the moment.
After this, I do not need the consent to be stored as its already in my EMR. I delete all my notes on heidi almost everyday anyway.
Best wishes
