Heidi Remote/Microphone - Please have it also useable as a BASIC microphone
Joe Renucci
The heidi remote has a ton of top-level features (offline storage of transcripts/single-button control of recordings et) which are incredible BUT it also needs to be able to have the same basic functionality as a $30 microphone that simply connects to the PC/phone/device of choice when compatibility beyond IOS arrives.
From what I understand I would need to wear a separate microphone for heidi and a separate microphone to input to the PC for other apps/videoconferencing/telehealth.
That is not a step forward and would prevent me upgrading from my current set up (and would be the same for many others as telehealth is booming)
I am looking for excuses to buy the heidi remote, please help me get there!
Cheers
Joe
Heidi Team
Hey Joe — thanks for taking the time to spell this out. Totally get the point: if you have to wear one mic for Heidi and another for telehealth/videoconferencing, that’s friction, not an upgrade.
I’ll share this request with the team: making the Heidi Remote usable as a “basic mic” (i.e., selectable as an input device for other apps on PC/phone) alongside the Heidi-specific features.
A couple quick questions so we capture the exact need:
1) Which setup are you using most: Windows/Mac + Zoom/Teams, or phone-based telehealth?
2) When you say “basic mic,” do you need it to work as a standard Bluetooth mic, USB mic, or either?
3) Any specific apps where this matters most (Zoom/Teams/WebRTC in browser/EHR telehealth module)?
If you can share your current setup (what mic you use today + device + telehealth app), that’ll help us frame the best compatibility expectations.

Heidi Team Thanks for the prompt response
1) Current setup is:
- Windows PC
- Heidi in browser window (but will switch to app if microphone features pan out)
- Dragon DMO (allows for triggering of verbal shortcuts/templates/control of the PC)
-Zoom
-Desktop telephone on speaker for telehealth calls

I am a really really big fan of the mic. Its plug-in-and-play. Discrete. Cheap. Magnetic. Has a range of like ?200ft so I can wander around the clinic. I've been advising everyone to buy them for their AI scribe because desktop mics are clunky/take up space/don't follow you into the treatment room. Get approx 8 hours on the charge.
Doesn't have a start/stop button though!

2) By basic mic I suppose I mean "as a way to act as an audio input to the computer outside of the heidi app" and I would press/persuade any hardware maker to offer BOTH a direct bluetooth connection AND a plug-in "dongle"
I don't know enough about engineering to know whether it would affect the audio quality/transcription but all of the consumer + microphone setups appear to have a usbC/A receiver (like the hollyland) rather than simply a direct bluetooth connection > PC.
Re: Bluetooth Dongle - there are still a number of computers in clinics without the ability to bluetooth! A lot of the other hardware I use (logi keyboard/mouse etc) ship with a USB dongle that you can plug into the PC to get around that. I use it in the 1 out of 4 locations that I work in where that is the case.
I understand from your POV it may not be worth it to add in the dongle as its extra hardware and capturing "most" of the market by allowing bluetooth connection to the PC might be good enough but I think there must be a reason that the high end mic/mouse/keyboard producers all still ship with a dongle! I certainly get value from it. (Example of thunderbolt dongle with the mouse i use https://www.amazon.com.au/Logitech-Master-Performance-Ultra-fast-Scrolling/dp/B07W5JKHFZ/ref=asc_df_B07W5JKHFZ?mcid=18d918cbad403cf09b05b48b19763e9d&tag=googleshopdsk-22&linkCode=df0&hvadid=712260569166&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10681197123182212161&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9072198&hvtargid=pla-1855534239352&hvocijid=10681197123182212161-B07W5JKHFZ-&hvexpln=0&gad_source=1&th=1)
3) Where it matters most: Between Heidi and Dragon DMO - setup discussed above
Thank you for your time with this
