Use of Evidence for continuing medical education
Ian Glaspole
Use of Evidence should be usable for continuing medical education. To be compatible, it would require the time it is used to be logged and auditable, via some form of downloadable certificate. This process already exists on Uptodate.

Hi Phil, I've looked at the hours you've estimated for the CPD activities. This is greatly overestimated in comparison to the time actually spent by me. I think it is probably out by at least a factor of 10. A formal certificate would be better than a CSV download. I submit to the RACP, using the MyCPD framework. The good thing about this activity is that it potentially provides Category 2 - reviewing performance, as it is generally performed in the context of confirming management is in accordance with current guidelines.

Hi Ian,
Thanks for raising this. Heidi already has a CPD feature built on Evidence that covers most of what you're describing.
When you use Evidence chat, the sources cited (journals, guidelines, point-of-care references) are logged automatically as CPD activities, so there's nothing to track manually. Each source gets an estimated reading time based on content type — roughly 15–20 minutes for a journal article, around 10 for a clinical guideline. From the dashboard you can see total learning hours, sources reviewed, and chat sessions, and set goals and deadlines for your professional development.
For compliance, you can export a CSV for any date range, customise which activities to include, and submit it to your CPD body (RACGP, AHPRA, etc.).
On downloadable certificates specifically: the current export is CSV-based, designed to slot into the RACGP/AHPRA submission portals. A formal PDF certificate closer to UpToDate's is on the roadmap as a phase 2 enhancement, and I'll add your vote to that ticket.
Two quick questions back: which CPD body are you submitting to, and does the CSV export work for your workflow today, or is a formal certificate a hard requirement for your accreditation pathway?

Thanks for sharing this — really thoughtful request.
Making “Use of Evidence” compatible with CME (logged time, auditable history, and a downloadable certificate) makes a lot of sense, especially if you’re using it multiple times a day. We’ll share this with the team.
A couple quick questions so we understand the requirements:
1) Which CME body/program do you need this to satisfy (and any specific rules around what must be captured)?
2) What would you want on the certificate/export (e.g., date/time, duration, topics/queries viewed, citations accessed, clinician name/ID)?
3) Would an on-demand downloadable report work, or do you need automatic periodic certificates (e.g., monthly)?
