ICD-10 / CPT coding recommendation by Heidi

ICD 10 codes that are suggested based on the consultation would be really useful. Both for the primary problem the patient is presenting but also for codes for underlying conditions/previous diagnoses (which would have come out in the PMHx). Would help me (as gynae) greatly because the hospital is hounding us for codes (especially for co-morbidities) and I have to look things like essential hypertension, cholesterol, hyperthyroidism etc up every single time because I just don't work with these often enough to bother remembering the codes.
My current EMR has this ICD 10 suggestion feature when you use their IntelliScribe option but is totally inaccurate in the transcription and summary... Heidi a million times better!
I have used "ask Heidi anything" to request for the ICD 10 codes but it would be quicker/easier if it was just a little button to click to get the code options.

Daniela Hello Daniela, thanks for the message! Have you had a chance to play around with our coding sidebar (currently in beta)? You can access it by going to Settings -> Coding -> Toggle "ICD-10-CM" on.
This will allow you to generate ICD-10 codes based on every session by clicking on the coding button on the bottom right of your note screen (view screenshot)

Doximity Scribe has the ICD 10 code feature. Very helpful. Should also consider identification of HCC diagnosis codes for year 2025.

Louis Maletz Thanks Louis! HCC codes are definitely a focus for us, will keep you updated.

I really like the idea of code suggestions, especially since they reference specific parts of the transcript to support, but I think there could be some improvement for mental health providers as we are typically seeking codes emblematic of groups of symptoms rather than codes for the symptoms themselves, which is what seem to be the majority. It would also be great if we could apply the codes, then, to the client/patient themselves somehow, maybe through context? Since their diagnoses will likely not change for some time, if at all, but in my case (as an outpatient private practice therapist) it will almost never change from session to session. Thanks!!
Shreyank from Heidi
Alycia Straeter Thanks for the feedback. Had a follow-up question on this - does this patient-level diagnostic information get tracked on your EMR/EHR in any way (active problem list, etc.)?

Alycia Straeter
Shreyank from Heidi Hi there! Yes it does get tracked through the EHR system, populating on treatment plans, progress notes, assessments, etc.
Shreyank from Heidi
Alycia Straeter Thanks so much for confirming! We will update you with any improvements we make in this direction :)

One suggestion. I hope there's a way to favorite an ICD-10 code we select or replace. Thank you for the awesome feature!

Mose Kang Thank you so much for the feedback - we are currently doing a redesign of our coding sidebar and will definitely take this into consideration. Will keep you updated!

Hello! CPT/ICD10 generators are fine, but without EHR integration it's not very useful. What we in US really need is AMA E&M medical decision making calculated at the end of each note - THIS is what determines billing. Level of decisions have A/B/C sections versus billing by time. This would be HUGE! Ty!
Mo from Heidi
N Chase: Aware it is complex. It's one of the things we're working on behind the scenes. Need to pull time data, encounter info from the EHR, apply rule-based modifiers, apply NCCI rules etc. etc.
EHR integrations are a separate effort (there is a category here on this roadmap for those integrations) - where their documentation allows us to integrate codes more deeply than the note, we will do it. We'll never be the rate-limiting step.

Nice addition.
ICD - 9 for those working out of BC would be helpful.
Mo from Heidi
Mark Morris: Noted - thank you. Please vote on https://getheidi.canny.io/features/p/icd-9-as-canadaalberta-still-use-icd-9 by Jaco Lotter when you get the time.

Thank you for your continued hard work in building and improving Heidi. I really appreciate the thoughtful features that have been implemented, and I love the overall idea and user experience.
I wanted to share some feedback regarding ICD-10 code detection. At this time, Heidi captures ICD-10 codes accurately about half the time, while the other half includes incorrect or seemingly unrelated codes. I wonder if this happens because Heidi pulls information primarily from the transcript rather than the summarized clinical note.
The transcript may contain minor errors, but I’ve noticed that Heidi does a fantastic job clarifying the visit by providing context and structure in the final note. It would be helpful if ICD-10 code generation could reflect what the note suggests, rather than relying only on the transcript.
I truly appreciate all the innovation behind Heidi and look forward to seeing its continued growth.

Mose Kang Hello Mose, thank you so much for the feedback. We are currently doing a revamp of our code detection to take the generated note into consideration as well - will keep you updated!

Hi all - we've released an ICD-10 beta to a random 50% selection of US clinicians on Pro / Together plans. We're looking for early feedback before we continue rolling out. Please let me know how you find it. We expect to do some fine-tuning based on your feedback.
After initial feedback, we expect to follow up with ICD9 in short order, and CPT thereafter.
Mo from Heidi
Feedback is welcome either here on this post, or on a new post.

Mo from Heidi Hi Mo! I've noticed that the ICD10 codes are spot on. Kudos to the Heidi team! Thanks for working on this as this could not have been easy!
Did you all include SNOMED-CT into your coding as well?
Mo from Heidi
Lee B: Great to hear! I expect oddities will emerge as 10000s stress test the feature, but we've been happy with the outcome in testing. Also, good to hear from you again. Our conversation about last year re: ICD10 has been affixed to mind.
Yes - it is the UK edition of SNOMED, and only available to UK clinicians at the moment. But we expect to make all codes available to all clinicians soon, irrespective of geo. Now that the bones of this coding engine are in place, we expect to be quicker with releases.

Mo from Heidi Likewise! Thanks for making time last year! Also kudos on continuing to move upward and forward with Heidi! Appreciate what you and the team are doing for your customers!
Also looking forward to testing the SNOMED-CT when it rolls out for the rest of your customers.
Be well!
Mo from Heidi
Lee B: Thank you!

Mo from Heidi any idea if/when we would be able to then copy the codes and their descriptions? Currently I can remove from the list, but then there's not an option to copy them. I would still have to select them in my EHR (IntakeQ) but at least they would be in the same window/tab to then do that. thanks
Shreyank from Heidi
Amy Zipp Thank you for the feedback. We are currently doing a revamp of our coding sidebar to be more functional for use cases such as this - will keep you updated!

We use ICD-9. Needs a feature that enables one to select most appropriate diagnostic codes for their practice.
Wayside Medical Clinic
Chinwe Ezisi you can include in your default template that Heidi should write the appropriate codes at the end of each diagnosis in your Assessment and to always use ICD9 for each code (instead of ICD 10 or ICD11. you kuku know how it is here) . I have written this in my template and it's great! My biller hardly has to go in search of codes
