I am South African, practicing in Canada. I have some Afrikaans speaking patient encounters and found, as a pleasant surprise, that Heidi automatically recognised our conversation, recorded the Afrikaans in the transcript and translated into English. The translation was surprisingly accurate. I have had similar encounters with a translator with many of our Punjabi speaking patients and the AI recognized the language being spoken and even produced a summary output for the patient in Punjabi. I recently encountered a patient from Eritrea who spoken only Tigrinya and had him give his history to Heidi who transcribed the history in Tigrinya and then translated into English and similarly produced a summary for the patient in Tigrinya. I was impressed to say the least.

I practice in Australia and when I see my Afrikaans clients, they tend to need to speak about themselves in Afrikaans, and anything that originally occurred in an Australian context, in English, especially about their now almost Aussie kids. Sometimes I am amazed by how much Heidi picks up, but I still have to keep notes, to capture the full story. Afrikaans asseblief : )
